Protect Yourself From Wire Fraud

Criminals hack email accounts and pose as title companies, lenders, and real estate agents to trick buyers into wiring closing funds to the wrong account. Once the money is sent, it is very hard to get back.

Cohesive Title always sends wiring instructions through Qualia. We will never send or change wiring instructions by regular email or text message.

To protect yourself:

• Do not trust wiring instructions that arrive by email or text, even if the message appears to come from us, your agent, or your lender. If it did not come through Qualia, do not use it.
• Always call our office at 757-644-3586 to confirm your instructions before sending money. Use a phone number you already know is real, not one from an email.
• Be suspicious of any last-minute change to wiring instructions or any message that creates a sense of urgency.
• Confirm with us that your funds arrived.
• Do not send sensitive information like account numbers or Social Security numbers over regular email.

If you think you have been targeted or sent money to the wrong account, call your bank right away and ask them to start a wire recall. Then call us and report it to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
